Puppy Chow is a long-time Kindergarten teacher recipe. 🙂 I haven’t made it since moving to Panama as imported cereals like Chex or Crispex are way too expensive! However, I found this big bag of Brown Rice Puffed Cereal at Organica for $2.50. Since we have a couple of children in our group that eat gluten free and this was shaped enough like dog food, I though it would be perfect for making gluten free puppy chow. (This is a repost from our white dog fun, spring 2012.)
Here’s what we used for a little healthier/more frugal option:
- 1/4 cup nut butter
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 4 1/2 cups puffed rice cereal (or Gluten Free Chex/Crispix)
- 3/4 cups powdered sugar (made in the Vita-mix)
Melt the chocolate chips over low heat (stovetop or microwave, you decide!).
Add the nut butter and stir until smooth.
Mix in the cereal, stirring it gently until well-coated.
Now for the fun part…
Put the powdered sugar in a bag, and dump in the cereal. Seal it…then shake, shake, SHAKE!!
Taaa Daaa!! Puppy Chow.
Of course, it tastes better if you eat it like a puppy too!
